However, bricks are very thick and heavy to support big industrial machines and extreme heat inside chemical storage tanks. Acid resistant tiles are much thinner and lighter, so people use them to protect laboratory floors, kitchen walls, and walkways from everyday acid spills.

Q: What are Acid Resistant Bricks?

A: Acid resistant bricks are dense, vitrified ceramic bricks manufactured at very high temperatures (above 1,200 °C). Their extremely low porosity (typically less than 1%) makes them highly resistant to most acids, chemicals, and corrosive environments.

Q: Which Acids can These Bricks Withstand?

A: They resist most mineral and organic acids including sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and phosphoric acid — at a wide range of concentrations. They are NOT recommended for hydrofluoric acid (HF) or strong alkalis such as caustic soda at elevated temperatures.

Q: What is the Typical Acid Absorption Rate?

A: Quality acid resistant bricks have an acid solubility of less than 1% when tested per ASTM C279 or IS 4860. Lower solubility means higher chemical resistance and longer service life.

Q: How are Acid Resistant Bricks Installed?

A: They are laid with acid-proof mortar (furan, phenolic, or sodium silicate-based) rather than ordinary Portland cement. Proper joint filling and curing are critical any gap can allow acid to reach the substrate and cause failure beneath the brick layer.

Standard grades are suitable for continuous service up to about 250 °C. For higher-temperature corrosive environments, dedicated high-temperature grades rated up to 700–900 °C are available. Always specify the operating temperature when ordering.
